SHIRLEY HANSON, MACKSBURG

Shirley Hanson, 66, of Macksburg died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at the Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Creston. Pastor Ben McIntire will preside over the service. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Union Cemetery in Pomeroy, Iowa. Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Aug. 28), with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Powers Funeral Home junction of Highways 34 & 25 in Creston. Memorials can be directed to the Salem Lutheran Church or the Greater Regional Hospice Home.

Shirley Kay Hanson, daughter of Charles and Helen Osborn, was born on Dec. 22, 1946, in San Francisco, Calif. She moved to the Pomeroy area in 1952 and graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1965. She completed the Cosmetology program at the American Academy of Beauty in Des Moines, Iowa. On April 28, 1968, Shirley was united in marriage to Dennis William Hanson at the Methodist Church in Pomeroy. She lived and worked in Pomeroy as a homemaker and helped operate the Hanson Electric store. In January 1977, she moved to a farm southwest of Macksburg, and worked as a farmwife and assisted at the Hanson Electric store in Macksburg. She attended the Salem Lutheran church and also worked there as the secretary. She also worked in the service department at the Sernett Department store, at Moore Music as a secretary, at the ISU extension office as a receptionist and at Lake Side Casino in the payroll department. Shirley was in a square dance club for 10 years, sang in the Creston Chorus, and played saxophone in the Creston Community Band.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Helen Osborn and brother-in-law Darold Lewis.

She is survived by her husband Dennis, Hanson of Macksburg; children, Shayne (Amanda) Hanson of Las Vegas, Nev., David Hanson of Creston, and Denise Hanson of Pleasant Hill; sister-in-law, Sandra Lewis of Leonard, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
