Born in Winterset, Iowa on Aug. 25, 1930
Departed on Aug. 16, 2013 and resided in Norwalk, IA.

Ruth "Babe" Johnston, 82, of Norwalk passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Norwalk Nursing and Rehab. Burial will be held at a later date at the North McDonald Cemetery near Winterset. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ruth Johnston Memorial Fund, in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, IA 50250. The family will direct the memorials at a later date. Ruth was born August 25, 1930 to Clarence and Geneva (Addy) Little in Winterset. She attended school in Winterset and graduated with the class of 1948. She then attended AIB Business School in Des Moines and played basketball. She worked in various restaurants around the Des Moines area.

On October 29, 1951 she was united in marriage to Robert Johnston in Des Moines. This union blessed them with five children: Diane, Karen, Mike, Steve and Pat. They previously lived in Winterset, Norwalk and Milo before returning to settle in Norwalk in 2001.

She was a wonderful cook known for her deviled eggs, potato salad and chocolate pie. She enjoyed reading and working jigsaw puzzles with friends. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's events. She always looked forward to weekend breakfasts at Hy-Vee. Most of all she enjoyed the company of her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband: Bob Johnston; infant-son: Steve Johnston; brothers: Vernon Little and Harold Little.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children: Diane Turner of Salt Lake City, Utah, Karen (Tom) Catron of West Des Moines, Mike (Polly) Johnston of Norwalk, Pat (Kim) Johnston of Norwalk; grandchildren: Ricky McCombs, Alan McNew, Lori McNew, Jennifer (Wil) McGrath of Knoxville, Drew (Kate) McCombs of Van Meter, Tyler Johnston (fiancé Jessica Dempsey) of Stuart, Kelsey and Nathan Johnston of Norwalk; great-grandchildren: Geneva Hupp of Knoxville and Lilly McCombs of Van Meter; siblings: Donald (Marilyn) Little of Winterset, Myrna (Jim) Moore of Winterset; sister-in-law: Lenore Little of Norwalk and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
