August 2013Obituary for Everett Burham
Everett Kiesey Burham completed his Earthly Journey at 11:00 A.M. on August 12, 2013. He lived, loved and was loved for 92 years 7 months and 12 days. Everett was born to the union of Everett Raymond and Ethel Kiesey Burham on January 19th, 1921. E.K graduated from Washington High School in 1939, Washington Junior College in 1941. He interrupted his education path to serve his Country during World War II in the Army Air Corps before returning to school after the War in 1949 with the intent of becoming an Ordained Methodist Minister.
He graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant in 1951 and received his Master of Divinity Degree from Garrett Biblical Institute in Evanston, Illinois in 1955. During his Garrett and Iowa Wesleyan years he served his first pastorates at Yarmouth and Donnellson, Iowa. After 34 years in the Ministry he retired from his final Pastorate (Wesley United Methodist) in Des Moines in 1983 moving back to Washington. During his life, E.K. came to be known for his integrity, his humanitarian ideals, his efforts in search of social justice, his Christian Faith and being a good Democrat.
He enjoyed 70 years of marriage to Doris Ione (Steele) Burham beginning on April 10, 1943 of which two sons were born Randolph (Patricia) of Garland, Texas and Drew (Janet) of Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers William and Robert. He is survived by his wife Ione, sister Nancy Henry (Oakridge, Oregon) four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family desires any Memorial Gifts to be directed to the Halcyon House Good Samaritan Endowment Fund or the United Methodist Church Missions Program.
A Memorial Service for Everett will be conducted at the United Methodist Church in Washington in conjunction with the 11:00 A.M. Service on Sunday August 18th, 2013. The family will be available preceding and following the 11:00 A. M. service. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
___________________Transcriber's Note: Everett Burham was the minister at the Winterset United Methodist Church in the late 1960's and early 1970's.
