MISSOULA, MONTANA

Paul B. Blomgren, 88, of Missoula, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at St. Patrick Hospital, of natural causes.

Paul was born December 8, 1920, in Winterset, Iowa to Lawrence and Aletha Blomgren. He graduated from Winterset High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics at the State University of Iowa, and his doctorate at Indiana University.

After marrying Aleen Trask in August 1942, Paul joined the United States Navy and served in the American, European African, and Asiatic Pacific theaters, earning a Victory Ribbon.

Paul’s career as an academician spanned the years from his work at DePaw University, Indiana University, California State University, Northridge, Hawaii Pacific University and two terms at the University of Montana where he was dean of the School of Business.

Paul enjoyed fishing, camping, reading and most of all his “Lady Griz.”

He is survived by his loving wife Aleen; son Paul Jr. and his wife Ewa of Rogers, Ark., and their two children; son Dick and his wife Jill of Missoula and their five children; son Bob and his wife Melody of Missoula and their two children; daughter Barbara and her partner Mary of Honolulu; brother-in-law Hugh Trask of Glenwood, Iowa, and his two children and their families; and six great-grandchildren.

Per Paul’s wishes, no formal services will be held. He will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to have known him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to support the University of Montana athletics programs he so dearly loved.
