Dorothy Porter, Fort Collins, CO

Dorothy Marie Porter was born April 9, 1930 in Osceola and died in her sleep at the age of 83 in Fort Collins, CO on June 17, 2013.

Dorothy was the daughter of Harold and Laura (Cook) Frey. While she was still young, Dorothy and her family moved to Winterset, where she attended school. In June 1949, she married Vernon Cecil Porter in Earlham.

Dorothy and Cecil raised four boys, Steve, Gary, Dan and Mark. After Cecil died of a heart attack in November 1965, she raised her sons as a single mom.

Dorothy lived in several towns in IA, including Winterset, Osceola, Indianola, Ankeny and several locations in Des Moines, mostly on the east side.

In April 2010, she moved to Fort Collins to be closer to family and lived there just over three years until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and brothers Vernon, Harold Jr., Kenneth (Mort), Galen and Clarence (Bub) Frey.

Survivors include her sister, Shirley Heslop of Fayette; her four sons and their wives: seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and no formal service is planned. Her ashes will be interred in IA by her sons in October.
