JOHN SPRADLIN SR., KANSAS

Pastor John C[h]arles Spradlin, Sr., 64, of Arkansas City, Kan., died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at his residence.

John was born at Bolling AFB in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 20, 1948, to James J. and Margaret (Brennan) Spradlin. He was raised on many Air Force bases up and down the eastern seaboard. After his father’s retirement, he graduated from Wheaton High School in Wheaton, Md. He attended college at Tennessee Temple of Chattanooga, Tenn., and graduated from Faith Baptist Bible College & Seminary of Ankeny, Iowa. He later received teaching credentials from Pittsburg State University. He married Kathy Carter on Sept. 20, 1969, in Winterset, Iowa. The couple have made their home in Iowa, Ohio, Minnesota and Kansas, where John has served as minister for the Baptist Church. John was currently serving as Pastor of the First Southern Baptist Church of Arkansas City.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy; two sons, John Jr. (Merav) of Ladera Ranch, Calif., and Aaron Spradlin of Arkansas City; brothers, Jim Spradlin of Germantown, Md., and Patrick Spradlin of Xenia, Ohio; sister, Janice Greenwood of Fairborn, Ohio; half brother, Joe Strausberger of Gaithersburg, Md.; and three grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a half brother and three half sisters.
