MILITARY RITES FOR FRANK GROSECLOSE

BRIDGEPORT -- Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church here Wednesday afternoon, for Frank Groseclose, a former Bridgeport resident who passed away in Tacoma Sunday afternoon after an illness of eight years, seven of which he had been confined to a wheelchair.

Rev. Alfred Derby of Peshastin, former pastor of the church at Bridgeport, was in charge of the services. A quartet, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Lamoreux, A. O. Lamoreux, and Mrs. Charles Washburn, furnished the music, with Mrs. A. O. Lamoreux at the piano. The following ex-service men were pallbearers: Ed Proff, Harry Lilly, Emerson Hanford, Henry Wyborney, Wm. Campbell and Milburn Waddle.

At the cemetery the Brewster Legionnaires had charge of the services, firing salute and sounding taps.

Frank Groseclose was born at DeSota, Iowa, November 19, 1871, being at the time of his death 64 years, 9 months and 1 day old. When a child, he moved to Sully County, South Dakota, where he lived for twenty years. In 1897 he enlisted in the Spanish American War, serving as Corporal in Company A, First South Dakota Volunteers.

In 1902 he was married to May Tisher of Des Moines, Iowa and came to Washington and lived near Bridgeport until 1929 when he moved to Tacoma. He is survived by his wife, May, two sons, Willard of Grand Coulee and Alfred of Tacoma; two daughters, Esther Bagwell and Frankie Bowers of Bridgeport; three sisters, Mrs. Dessie Jones, Cherry Creek, South Dakota; Mrs. Eliza Young, St. Cloud, Florida and Mrs. Gertrude Maine, Phoenix, Arizona. Three daughters preceded him in death.

Transcriber's notes: Transcribed as published. Although his birthplace is listed as De Soto, which is in Dallas County, the family, at the time, lived in Madison Township, Madison County and likely had a De Soto P.O. address.

Also, his wife's maiden name, "Tisher", is listed as "Fisher" on her Washington Death Certificate.
