JOHN HENRY STRAWN, St. Charles

John Henry Strawn was born October 12, 1915 in St. Charles IA, the son of Charles and Jessie May Martin Strawn. John began celebrating his eternal life with Christ at Mercy Hospice in Johnston IA on May 17th, 2013.

He was united in marriage to Northa Glee Johnson March 4, 1939 in Indianola. In 1948, they bought a farm north of St. Charles where together they raised six children.

John started working at John Deere Des Moines Works in 1948 where he would spend the next 27 years, along with farming, milking cows, and raising beef cattle. In 1980, John & Northa moved into town. In 1998, Northa passed away. John would remain in St. Charles until 2007 when he entered assisted living, first in Norwalk and later into Legacy Point in Waukee IA, where a truly wonderful staff ensured his comfort.

John was a life-long member of St. Charles Parish, a fifty year member of Model Lodge #315 A.F.&A.M., Model Chapter #174 O.E.S., U.A.W. Local #450 and the Rolling Wheels Camping Club. John will always be remembered as a great father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great- grandfather. Not only an excellent role model for his family of 109, but truly an inspiration to us all.

John is survived by five sons, Charles (Audrey); Dean (Jane); Russel (Joyce); Phillip (Carmen); Dennis; one daughter, Alice (Garald) Slye; 18 grandchildren, 46 great- grandchildren, 6 great- great-grandchildren; sister Wilmarie McDonald; brothers, Dale (Rose) and Wayne (Sallie); sister-in-law, Dorothy Strawn as well as numerous family and friends.

John was preceded in death by wife, Northa; daughters-in-law, Pat & Marilyn; two grandchildren, Shari Medick & Leslie Strawn and 1 great-grandchild, Dominic Johnson; parents, Charles & Jessie, and brothers, Ralph (Red); Ronald; and sister, Shirley Nicholl.

Memorials:
The family request in lieu of flowers and plants you consider a memorial to the St. Charles Parish memorial fund or Mercy Hospice in Johnston IA whose staff provided care and compassion in Johns final days.

Visitation:
5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Kale Funeral Home (Osceola Chapel) 301 S. Main St. Osceola Iowa 50213 (map/driving directions)

Service:
10:00 am on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at St. Charles Parish Church St. Charles Iowa 50240 (map/driving directions)
