Sadie was born July 28, 1923 in Pukwana, South Dakota, to Miles and Mamie Howe Orton. She grew up in a circus family and as a child lived in Ortonville, Iowa. Sadie has very fond memories as a child, living around all the circus animals and performers. After her family sold the circus, they moved to Adel to make their home. Sadie started working at an early age and was employed at a Tent and Awning company in Des Moines and as a nanny for a family in Dallas Center.

She was united in marriage to Merlyn Frey and together they became the proud parents of two daughters, Mary and Carolyn. Shortly after their marriage they made their home in Earlham. Together they purchased Ken Johnson's Trucking and Hauling Company and Sadie worked alongside Merlyn performing all the bookwork. Merlyn preceded her in death in 1982.

After Merlyn's passing, Sadie attended classes to freshen up on her shorthand and after receiving her certificate, she was employed at Built-Rite Homes. She married Bill Lawson in Jefferson, Iowa and he preceded her in passing and then married Vern Buhr and together they lived in Goldfield, Iowa until his passing and after moved back to Earlham. Sadie enjoyed camping with her family especially at the Iowa State Fair ground for the past 40 years. She also enjoyed fishing, playing bridge, watching horse shows, and watching all of her great grandchildren's sporting events. Sadie was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and always had to be home to watch the Iowa football and basketball games.

Besides her parents and husbands, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Lester, Silvia, Gracie, Vera, Arlene and Betty.

Sadie leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Mary (Denny) Wheeler of Pleasant Hill, Iowa and Carolyn (Dave) Boyle of Earlham, Iowa; brother, Miles (Eleanor) Orton of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren, Gregory (Sandi) Adkins of Two Harbors, Minnesota, Brant (Chrissy) Adkins of Burlington, North Carolina, Shawn (Shelley) Boyle of Earlham, Iowa and Rusty (Sarah) Boyle of Grain Valley, Missouri; great grandchildren Justin, Nick, Alex, Emily, Jake, Marilyn, Garrett, Gavin, Ella, and Brett; one great-great grandson Cole and a host of nieces, nephews and friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
