Page 19Services for John L. McElwee, 81, of 1409 Clark St., who died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital of complications following surgery, will be at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Ambrose Cathedral with burial at St. Patrick’s Cemetery at Irish Settlement in Madison County.
Mr. McElwee was born in Pocahontas, and lived in Des Moines 45 years. He was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are one brother, William of Des Moines; three sisters, Mrs. Sadie Myers, Mrs. Alice Lose, and Mrs. Rose Groat, all of Des Moines.
A rosary will be recited at 8:30 tonight at Caldwell-Brien-Robbins Funeral Home.
