Darrell Lee DeReus, 89, long-time resident of DeSoto, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at Winterset Care Center North in Winterset, Iowa. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel, with burial at Fairview Cemetery near DeSoto. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a Masonic Service at 7 p.m.

Darrell graduated from Farrar High School in 1933. On August 9, 1939, he married Lenora White of Runnells. After living in Reasoner, IA, Darrell and Lenora moved to the DeSoto area in 1943 where they resided before moving to Winterset Care Center this year.

Darrell began hauling cream and milk as a profession in 1943, before retiring in 1976. Along the way, Darrell made many friends and business partners in many area counties including Dallas, Polk, Madison, Warren and Adair. After selling his milk route and truck, Darrell began driving a school bus for the Adel-DeSoto School District. He enjoyed many high school activities. Darrell retired in 1992.

Darrell enjoyed serving the community through the local Masonic Lodge and the DeSoto Lions’ Club. He is a 50-year plus member of the Masons and a long-time member of the DeSoto United Methodist Church. He served several committees, positions and ministries in the church.

Besides being very popular with his neighbors and community, Darrell displayed a servant heart with tremendous work ethic and morals, being one of the oldest residents in DeSoto. He sincerely enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with spending time playing cards with friends and neighbors.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Lenora; daughters, Karen (Bob) Jones of Van Meter, Kora DeReus of DeSoto and Pam Cassady of DeSoto; and sons, Dale (Nancy) of Cedar Rapids and Rod (Kathy) of Huxley. He also leaves 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and one brother, Dwain of Runnells. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Vera and a sister, Marie.
