PAT STONEKING - New Virginia

Patricia E. Stoneking, 75, of New Virginia, Iowa, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at Mercy Hospice - Johnston in Johnston, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 12, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, Iowa with Rev. Bill Branson officiating. Her body will be cremated following the funeral service with her cremains to be interred in the Altoona Cemetery at Altoona, Iowa.

Pat was born on April 4, 1937, at Genoa, Iowa to Maurice and Hazel (Hickerson) Parker. She was married on August 1, 1965 at Des Moines, Iowa, to Jerry Stoneking. She had spent most of her life in the Altoona and Des Moines area. Pat had been a secretary for the United Way in Des Moines for several years and later became a teacher’s assistant for Interstate 35 and Martensdale-St. Mary’s school districts. Pat had a love for horses. She belonged to the New Virginia Saddle Club, The Iowa Buckskin Horse Association, and various other saddle clubs. She enjoyed sewing, teaching children to ride horses and being a grandmother. She also belonged to the New Virginia United Methodist Church.

Pat is survived by her daughter, Susan (Bryan) Aller of St. Charles; son, David (Amy) Stoneking of New Virginia; brothers, Charles (JoAnna) Parker of Centerville and Howard (Joyce) Parker of Centerville; sisters, Doris LaPaglia of Centerville and Donna Ballas of Des Moines; grandchildren, Linnea, Ashley, and Waylon; and step-grandchildren, Ashley Marie, Tyler, Nathaniel, and Andrew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Hazel (Hickerson) Parker; husband, Jerry Stoneking; sister, Lucille Spenser; and nephew, Jesse Harl.

Memorials may be given to her family for a future designation.
