Winterset Woman, Invalid for Several Years, Dies at Age 64
Mrs. Raymond L. Boyd, a resident of this community most of her life, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, at her home in Winterset. She was 64 years of age, and had been an invalid for several years.
She was the former Ruth Curtis, daughter of George W. and Ida Patterson Curtis, and was born Sept. 8, 1901, in Cherokee county. She was married in Winterset Nov. 24, 1921, to Raymond L. Boyd, who survives her.
As a young woman she served as a teacher in the rural schools of Madison county. She had been a member of the Rebekah lodge of Winterset since 1921, and was a member of the Monroe township Friendly Circle club and the Methodist church.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Holtmyer of Winterset, Mrs. Velma Secrest of Macksburg, and Mrs. Marilyn Bush of Winterset, in addition to her husband. She also leaves nine grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Esther Williams of Davenport; a half-brother, Hubert E. Curtis of Bettendorf; and her step-mother, Mrs. Edith Curtis of Dubuque.
Funeral services will be held this Friday at 2 p.m. from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. H. E. Borum, pastor of the First Baptist church here. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
