L. BLANCHE CUMMINS, MINNESOTA

Leona Blanche Cummins, 97, of Bloomington, Minn., died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at the Martin Luther Home.

Services were held Saturday, Dec. 22, at Normandale Hylander United Methodist Church in Bloomington, Minn. She will be buried beside her beloved husband George, in Eureka Springs, Ark., in the spring of 2013.

Blanche (as she preferred to be called) was born July 29, 1915, to Arthur and Florence Jones on a farm in Scott Twp., south and east of Winterset, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church. On July 30, 1935, she was united in marriage to George Thomas Cummins; to this union four children were born. Blanche taught grades 1-8 in a one-room schoolhouse before and after her marriage to George. They both farmed in the area until 1948, when they moved to Cherokee, Iowa. They also lived in Garner, Webster City and Ames, before retiring to Eureka Springs, Ark. In January 1976, they opened the Brass Lock Antique Shop. While she was in Eureka Springs, she was the state president of the Emblem Club. When Blanche was 90, she moved to Minnesota to be with her youngest son Charles. She was devoted to the Ark & Normandale Methodist Church in Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur & Florence Jones; her husband, George; her three brothers, Robert, Glen and Gene Jones.

She is survived by her three sons: Larry (Mary) Cummins of Bryceland, Minn., Marvin (LeAnn) of Corcoran, Minn. Charles Cummins of Bloomington Minn., and one daughter, Judy (Don) Sloan of Elk River, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Doris Sorenson of Tulsa, Okla.

Blanche will be greatly missed by her family, friends and her church, but, with her beautiful smile, went to a better place, to be with the love of her life – my brother, George Thomas Cummins.
Doris M. Sorenson, Tulsa, Oklahoma
