Mrs. Mills was the widow of the late Claude O. Mills, a well-known Winterset business man, whose death occurred in 1959.

She was a native of East Lynn, Ill., where she was born Nov. 6, 1889, a daughter of Jonas F. and Sophia Johnson. The family moved to Webster county, Iowa, where her early life was spent, until 1910, when they moved to a farm in Madison county.

She was married June 30, 1912, to Claude Mills. They lived in Winterset until 1931, when they moved to Stuart where Mr. Mills managed the United Food market until 1934. They returned to Winterset that year, and he managed the United market in Winterset until his retirement in 1948.

Mrs. Mills was a member of the First Methodist church of Winterset, where she was active in the W.S.C.S. For 45 years she was a member of the Winterset chapter, Order of Eastern Star, serving as worthy matron in 1945. Since then she had been active in the Past Matrons’ club. She was a founder and charter member of the North Ward P.T.A. in Winterset.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Lorraine Belden of Stuart; her son, John Mills of Deerfield, Ill.; four grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Hansen and Mrs. Fred Youngquist, and a brother, Isaac Johnson, all of Murdock, Minn., and a brother, Otto Johnson of Washington, D.C.
