April 1982Hazel Maddick, daughter of James A. and Mabel Turner Kale, passed away Thursday morning, April 22, 1982 at the Kanawha Community Home, where she had been a resident since April 14, 1982. She was born June 26, 1896 at Anita, Iowa and was 85 years, 9 months and 18 days of age at the time of her death.
She attended the rural schools near Winterset, Iowa. She was married to James Ford (Jack) Maddick on December 17, 1913 in Des Moines, Iowa and they moved to Kanawha, Iowa in 1923. In 1947 they moved to Pennington, Minnesota and operated a resort business and moved back to Kanawha in 1958. She operated a maternity in Kanawha for many years.
She was a member and Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge, and was also a member of the Eastern Star, serving in the appointive office of Ruth. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith and while living in Kanawha she was a member of the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, James Ford Maddick; 3 daughters: Iliah Sorenson, Vera Abbas and her husband Clarence, and Vivian Wicks and her husband Herbert, all of Kanawha, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; 1 sister, Lena Beeson of Polk City, Iowa; many relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death be her parents; twin daughters Darlene and Arlene; 1 son-in-law, Fred Loeffler and one grandson, Jack Loeffler.
