Funeral Thursday For Mrs. Shute, 84

Florence Mae Shute, widow of a former pastor of Grace Baptist church in Winterset, died Monday night, July 20 at Valley View Village in Des Moines. She was 84 years of age.

The daughter of Samuel and Annie Parrish, she was born at Cardiff, Wales, on June 13, 1880. She was married to Rev. E. C. Shute on Dec. 2, 1902, in Wales. He served as pastor of Grace Baptist church in Winterset for several years.

Mrs. Shute is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Wilson Hendrix of Des Moines, and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be this Thursday, July 23, at Valley View Village in Des Moines at 10:30 a.m., and at the Grace Baptist church in Winterset at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Archie Veltman of South Town Baptist church in Des Moines and the Rev. Melvin Mattox of the local Grace Baptist church will officiate at the Winterset rites. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.

Services for Florence Shute, 84, who died Monday at the Valley View Village retirement home, Avenue Frederick M. Hubbell at Guthrie Avenue, will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Grace Baptist Church in Winterset.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Valley View Village.

Mrs. Shute, a native of Cardiff, Wales, came to America in 1913. She and her husband, the late Rev. E. C. Shute, were both graduates of the Moody Bible Institute. They were co-workers in the Baptist ministry for 39 years. He was pastor of the Grace Baptist Church at Winterset at the time of his death.

A daughter, Mrs. Wilton Hendrix of Des Moines, and one grandchild survive.
