J. M. McGee, One of City's Oldest Residents, Is Taken By Death At Home Here Today

Retired Jeweler Had Been In Failing Health, For Two Years; Stricken With Paralysis Short Time
Ago; Well Known

JOHN M. McGEE

J. M. McGee, aged 64 years, widely known resident of Blackwell died at 10 o'clock this morning at his home, 802 West Bridge street.

Mr. McGee had been in ill health for about two years. Three or four months ago he suffered a slight attack of paralysis, which doubtless hastened the end.

Mr. McGee was married in his native state of Iowa, and moved about 20 years ago with his family from Cherokee, Iowa. He had been a jeweler in Iowa, and upon his arrival here purchased the building at 107 West Blackwell avenue, and started a jewelry store.

He operated this store up until about six years ago when his sons Fred and Robert, took charge of the business. Robert, the elder son, died about three years ago, and Fred has since been in charge.

Since he moved to Blackwell, Mr. McGee had been a continuous resident if the city. Until he retired, his business had occupied his undivided attention. While associated in the business he won many friends from all over northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge, having joined this order in Iowa.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Minnie McGee, 802 West Bridge street, a son, Fred McGee, 710 West Blackwell avenue, and a brother, Lee McGee, of Denver, Colo., two sisters preceded him in death earlier this year.

Funeral arrangements will be made as soon as word has been received from his brother in Denver.
