Ruby Sawhill Services

Funeral services for Ruby Hazel Sawhill of Winterset were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 31, at Collins Funeral Home. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery with Rev. Scott Grotewold officiating. Mrs. Sawhill died Tuesday, August 28, at Madison County Memorial Hospital at the age of 81.

The daughter of Charles and Carrie Crow DeVault, she was born on January 7, 1898 in Madison County and was a lifelong resident here. On January 5, 1921 in Madison County, she was married to Gaylord Sawhill who preceded her in death. For 24 years they operated the Podunk Center Grocery store.

Surviving are two sons, Wayne of Winterset and Dale of Ankeny; a daughter, Harriett Campbell of Winterset; two brothers, Orla and Gyle DeVault, both of Winterset; a sister, Reva Duff of Van Wert; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
