Rites At Truro For Mrs. Grimes
Vannatta Ruth Gordon Grimes was born January 16, 1898 at Fairfield, Iowa, the daughter of James and Cara Vannatta Gordon, and died at her home near Truro on Sept. 14, at the age of 79.
She lived most of her early life on a farm near Bentonsport, Iowa, and in 1917 moved to Peru, to live with her aunt and uncle, Leona and John Datwyler. She married Thomas Jefferson (Jeff) Grimes on July 25, 1918.
They lived on farms near Peru and Truro until they retired and moved to Truro. After the death of her husband in 1961, she moved to Farmington, Iowa and helped her sister Hazel in a nursing home there. After Hazel’s death, she moved to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, to be near her sister’s Gail and Lydia. Her brother-in-law Charley Grimes became ill so she moved back to Peru to help care for him and his wife Florence. After their deaths she moved to the Bill Harper farm near Truro, where she resided until her death.
She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Clark (Darlene) Bartholomew of Puyallup, Washington and Mrs. Juanita Gentry of Fremont, Nebraska. Two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Stancell of Fairfield, Iowa and Mrs. Gail Rankin of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and one brother, Wilson Gordon of Anderson, Ind., five grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson, two sisters and a brother.
Services were held at the Kale Funeral home on Sept. 19th, with burial at Ebenezer cemetery.
