“Monk” Lewis Obituary

Ralph “Monk” William Lewis, born April 16, 1892, in Jackson Township of Adair County, died near Winterset last year and was buried Wednesday, April 20 at Winterset cemetery.

His body was discovered in a cornfield near the northwest city limits Friday, April 15. He had been reported as a missing person since last summer.

The son of T. L. and Julia Taylor Lewis, R. W. Lewis worked in Madison County as a farm laborer and was a veteran of World War I. He served with the U.S. Army from May 26, 1918 to April 19, 1919.

Services last Wednesday were held at 2:00 p.m. with military graveside honors by Green Rogers Post 184 of the American Legion. Rev. Charles Updike officiated.
