Rites Held For Ray Pickering

Raymond Charles Pickering of 718 North 2nd Ave. in Winterset died Sunday, August 8th, at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He was 82 years of age.

A retired carpenter, Mr. Pickering had lived in Winterset the past 28 years.

He was born March 17, 1894 in Decatur County, Iowa, a son of Frank Jerome and Martha Marvin Pickering.

He was a veteran of World War I, and a member of the American Legion for 56 years. His church affiliation was First Christian.

He was married to Esther Copeland in 1931. She preceded him in death in October of 1970.

Raymond Pickering is survived by three brothers, Ralph of Burlington, Iowa; Clifford of Hamilton, Missouri; and Roy of Winterset; and one sister Thelma Black of Leon.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. this Wednesday from Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Rev. Eldon Jandebeur officiating. Military graveside rites were conducted by Green Rogers Post of the American Legion at the Winterset Cemetery.
