W. W. Porter Dies at 82

Funeral services for W. W. Porter, long-time resident of the Peru community, were held last Saturday from the Methodist church in Peru. He was 82 years of age.

Walter William Porter, a son of James and Frances Mothorn Porter, was born Feb. 15, 1890 at Keystone, Minn. He died March 23 at Madison County Memorial hospital in Winterset.

Mr. Porter attended the Peru schools, and farmed in the Peru area until 1964 when he retired and moved to town.

On Dec. 25, 1910 he was married to Ola Simmons. He was a member of the Methodist church.

Surviving are his wife, one son, Walter Porter, Jr. of Norwalk; one daughter, Mrs. Merrill Tuttle of St. Charles; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three children: Evelyn, Harold and Ardis; one foster daughter, Mary Glascoe; two brothers, Alfred and John; and one sister, Clara.

Officiating at the service Saturday afternoon was the Rev. Richard Hempenius of Truro. Burial was in the Peru cemetery.

Walter Porter Dies Thursday

Funeral services for Walter William Porter, 82, were held Saturday, March 25 from the United Methodist Church in Peru. He died Thursday, March 23, in the Madison County Memorial Hospital. The 2 p.m. services were conducted by the Rev. Richard Hempenius of Truro with interment in the Peru Cemetery.

Walter William Porter was born February 15, 1890 in Keystone, Missouri, son of James and Frances Mothern Porter. He was educated in Peru and was a farmer until he retired in 1964. He was united in marriage to Ola Simmons, December 25, 1910 in Winterset.

Surviving relatives include: wife, Ola of Peru; son, Walter and wife, Ruby of Norwalk; daughter, Lois Tuttle and husband, Merrill of St. Charles; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; son-in-law, Ronald Allen of Des Moines; daughter-in-law, Regina (Jean) Porter of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three children, Evelyn; Harold; and Ardis; one foster daughter, Mary Glascoe; and two brothers, Alfred and John; and sister Clara.
