Craven Services Last Thursday
Joseph Monroe (Roy) Craven, 91, a retired farmer and lifetime resident of Madison county, died Tuesday, August 21, 1973 at Madison County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Craven was born November 22, 1881 in Madison county, the son of Eli Marida and Elmira Kivett Craven. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Stella Rosa Beem, on March 17, 1942, thirty-three years after their marriage in Madison county in November of 1908.
Mr. Craven was married to Myrtle Bentley on October 8, 1953 in Madison county. She preceded him in death November 4, 1968.
Surviving Mr. Craven are two daughters: Mrs. Letha Jackson of Winterset and Mrs. Lela Ballard of Douglas, Wyoming and a son, Lester Craven of Des Moines.
A second son, Floyd Craven, was killed in action during the Second World War in January of 1945.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and a brother, John F. Craven of McMinnville, Oregon.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, August 23, at 3:00 p.m. from the Collins Funeral Home with burial in the Winterset cemetery. The Rev. Eldon Jandebeur presided.
