Oliver Doop Dies at 91

J. O. (Oliver) Doop of Adel, a prominent Winterset business man for many years, died Friday, April 6, at Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines. He had suffered a broken hip Tuesday, March 20, at his home in Adel. He was 91 years of age.

Funeral services were held this Wednesday from the Fisher Funeral home in Adel, conducted by the Rev. John Dole. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mr. Doop was born in Danville, Ill., and came to Casey, Iowa, with his parents as a young man. He was married May 3, 1905. He and his wife, Ethel, and their daughter, Ilene, moved from Casey to Winterset on Feb. 8, 1916. He purchased a meat and grocery store from I. E. T. Wilson, and continued in that type of business here until 1934, when he moved to Adel, where he had purchased a motion picture theatre. He engaged in the theatre business there until his retirement in 1947. Mrs. Doop died Jan. 8, 1958.

Several years ago he was married to Mrs. Ruth Kaser of Des Moines. Her death occurred in November, 1962.

Mr. Doop is survived by his daughter, Mrs. C. O. Koehn of Winterset, and two grandchildren, Mrs. Mary Jo Fenimore of Ames and William Koehn of Des Moines, and also five great grandchildren.
