RICHARD L. WISE, SR., WINTERSET, IOWA

Richard L. Wise, Sr., 70, of Winterset, Iowa, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

A military graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. His body will be cremated following visitation on Thursday.

Richard was born on Jan. 11, 1942, at Waterloo, Iowa, to Richard and Betty (Hern) Wise. At the age of two, his father died during WW II. Betty later married Ronald Dorrell and Ronnie became the only father Richard knew. Richard grew up in Winterset and was a 1960 graduate of Winterset High School. He went to college for one year before joining the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam era. Shortly after his discharge from the military, he married Linda Schirm on Aug. 20, 1966, at Winterset. Richard had been a lifetime resident of Winterset and had worked for Quebecor World Printing at Waukee. He retired in January of 2004 after working there for 38 years. He had been a member of the First Christian Church, Evening Star Masonic Lodge #43, Madison County Sportsman Club, and served 28 years on the Madison County Compensation Board.

Richard is survived by his wife, Linda Wise of Winterset; sons, Richard L. “Rick” Wise, Jr. and Michael C. (Amber Walker) Wise; daughters, Brenda M. Ford and Bronna (Jason) Englund; brother, Ronald Dorrell, Jr.; sisters, Connie (Jim) Miller, Linda Kelly, and Amy Sawyers; sister-in-law, Deb (Robert) McKeever; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ford, Alyson Ford, Emily Ford, Madalynn Wise, Prescott Allen and Danica Heathcoat; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Richard D. Wise; parents, Ronald E. and Betty I. (Hern Wise) Dorrell; sisters, Teresa Wise and Martha Dorrell; and brother-in-law, Loren Kelly.

A celebration of life visitation will be Thursday at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home from 1-7 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. with Rev. Sue Blader officiating, followed by a Masonic Service. Memorials given to the family will be directed to Middle River Hospice, the V.F.W. Hall in Winterset, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
