Mrs. Mary Croft Dies in California

Mrs. Mary R. Croft, a resident of Winterset most of her life, died Friday, Feb. 21, at Coronado, Calif., where she had been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Moore. She was 72 years of age.

Mrs. Croft was a native of Des Moines, where she was born April 16, 1896, a daughter of Raymond and Catherine Leonard Toson. She came to Winterset with her parents as a child and spent her early life here. As a young woman she was married here to Raymond Croft. They moved to New York City, and later to Florida, where they lived for several years before returning to Winterset. Mr. Croft preceded her in death.

Most of her life was spent as a resident of Winterset. She had been with her daughter in California since Dec. 5, 1967.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church in Winterset.

Surviving are the daughter, Kathleen, and the latter’s husband, Col. Floyd A. Moore of Coronado, Calif.; a granddaughter, and two sisters, Mrs. Rena B. Goodwin of Winterset and Mrs. A. G. Winkler of Ft. Lauderdale, Calif.

The rosary was recited for Mrs. Croft Tuesday evening from the Collins Funeral home here. Funeral services were held this Wednesday from St. Joseph’s Catholic church, in charge of the pastor, the V. Rev. Msgr. John W. Higgins. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
