Life-Time Resident of This Community Was 72 Years of Age
Charles Orval White of Winterset died at his home here Saturday, May 18, at the age of 72 years.
The death is reported officially as a suicide, by shooting.
Mr. White was born in Winterset Sept. 3, 1895, and was a life-time resident of this community. He was a son of Willis M. and Henrietta Simpson White.
He was married, as a young man to Dorothy Gentry. Her death occurred in 1939. On May 3, 1947, he was married to Dorothy M. Mitchell, who survives him.
During his life time, Mr. White engaged in farming, and worked as a painter and mechanic. He was a veteran of World War I, serving overseas in France, and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Early in life he was a member of the Methodist church, but in late years had been affiliated with the Grace Baptist church here.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Eugene Eyerly of Denver, a son, Willis Francis White of Winterset, five grandchildren, one great grandchild; and a brother, Vernon White of Winterset.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Collins Funeral home in charge of the Rev. Melvin Mattox, pastor of the Grace Baptist church in Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
