Howard Phillips Died Saturday

Howard G. Phillips of Ames, a former resident of Winterset, died Saturday, July 22, at a hospital in Ames where he had lived the last 37 years. He was 74 years of age.

Mr. Phillips was born in Jones county, but most of his early life was spent at Winterset. He attended the Winterset schools, and was married here on March 10, 1917, to Gertrude Terrill of Winterset. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary this year.

He was associated with the Munn Electric company in Ames, serving as manager. Later he owned the Phillips Electric company there from 1954 to 1956, when ill health forced his retirement.

He was a member of the Collegiate Presbyterian church, serving as elder for six years, and was a member of the Elks lodge and Lions club there.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Robert Phillips of Des Moines; a granddaughter; and a brother, Max J. Phillips of San Diego, Calif.

Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the Adams Funeral home in Ames, conducted by the Rev. R. Samuel Buffat, pastor of the Collegiate Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
