Former Resident of Madison County Dies in Accident Near Creston
Leonard L. McDonald of Afton, formerly of Winterset, was killed last Wednesday, March 15, in an automobile accident on a secondary road northeast of Creston, in Union county.
Mr. McDonald was 35 years of age at his death. He was born in Madison county Nov. 1, 1931, a son of William Wallace McDonald and Gladys Clark McDonald.
Most of his life was spent in Madison county. In recent years he was employed as a foundry worker with the McCann company in Creston.
He had served in the U.S. armed forces from 1952 to 1954, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post at Creston. He was also a member of the Eagle lodge there.
Mr. McDonald was married in 1958 at Winterset to Dixie Lucas of this community.
He is survived by his wife; five children, Robert Lewis, aged 7, Lucas Jay, aged 6, Bryan Daniel, aged 4, Shelly Annette aged 3, and Sheryl Lynn aged 18 months. He also leaves his mother Mrs. Gladys McDonald of Winterset; six brothers, Wayne, Harold and Victor S. McDonald of Winterset, Paul and James McDonald of Winterset, and Melvin McDonald of Des Moines; and two sisters Mrs. Zola Haigh of Des Moines and Mrs. Barbara Corkrean of Winterset.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset conducted by the Rev. William Tomlinson of Afton. Burial was made in the McDonald-Chase cemetery.
