Winterset Rites For Crash Victim

WINTERSET—Funeral services for Omer Hess, 83, of rural Lorimor, were held at Winterset Thursday.

Hess, a retired farmer, was injured in an accident involving three vehicles in Creston on June 30. He died at a nursing home at Creston last Tuesday.

The accident in which he was injured occurred at highway 34 and Elm street in Creston.

Hess was going south on Elm street and pulled onto highway 34 to turn east in front of a loaded milk truck and trailer driven by Dale E. Giles of Eagleville, Mo. Giles swerved to try to miss the Hess car but hit the car and glanced off. His truck ran head-on into a car in which Vincent C. Sullivan, mayor of Corning, his wife, and his parents were riding.

Hess was thrown out of his car as it spun around into the driveway of a service station.

Mayor Sullivan and his father suffered only cuts and bruises but their wives were more seriously injured. Both women had severe cuts and bruises and the elder Mrs. Sullivan suffered a broken arm.

Only the milk truck driver was not hurt in the accident.
