MERRY ALMEDA BRIGGS, Indianola

Services for Merry Almeda Briggs, 89, who passed away Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Westview Care Center in Indianola, IA, will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 24, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to services.

Almeda, fondly known as Peggy, was born on May 24, 1923 in rural Warren County, IA, the daughter of Walter and Flo (McCroby) Walker. After graduating from Indianola High School, she worked at the war plant in Ankeny. She then attended dental assistant school and worked in that career for many years in Des Moines. In her adult life, she lived in Winterset and Indianola. During that time, she owned a western wear store, had a ceramics business, housed WWII disabled veterans, and was employed by Farm Bureau.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, David Harold Flesher; sister, Margaret Wilson; and brothers, Paul Walker, Chester (Chet) Walker and Harold Walker. Surviving are her brother, John Walker; sisters-in-law, Louise Walker and Ellen Walker; cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple of God Church or Southern Care Hospice.
