Elizabeth Bennett, daughter of Jacob and Susanna Shaffer, born on April 22, 1840 in Marion county, Indiana, died Jan. 7, 1925 at home near Stuart at age 84 years, 8 months and 16 days.

At 12 years of age she came with her parents to Madison County, Iowa. In 1863, she married John Leddy and soon after their marriage she and her husband went to Nebraska where they lived until 1878. They returned to Madison county wherer they lived until Nov. 1896 when they moved to Stuart.

To this union two children were born, Etta, who survives and one child who died in infancy. Her husband died Aug. 21, 1910.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. church by Pastor D. H. Howey.
