Carl Washington Heathcote, 96, of Winterset died of a heart ailment Wednesday at Winterset Care Center North. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Southtown Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service, with burial of the cremains at Sunset Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Heathcote was a lifelong resident of Des Moines and moved to Winterset in July 1997. He was a retired printer-pressman for Meredith Corp., a member of the pressman’s union, and a former pitcher for Black Diamond Baseball League.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta; three sons, Carl of Dubuque, Donald of Streetman, Texas, and Jerry of Dacula, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
