Susan Diane Parkins, 36, of 309 E. Shawnee Ave. died of carbon monoxide poisoning Tuesday at her home. The death had been ruled a suicide. There will be a private service and burial will be in North McDonald Cemetery.

Born in Winterset, Ms. Parkins lived most of her life in Des Moines and was a real estate technician for Polk County. She was a member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

Surviving are a son, Patrick Barber, and a daughter, Allie Barber, both of Ankeny; her mother, Shirley Parkins of Winterset; a brother, Tom Parkins of Alexandria, Va.; and her grandparents, Dick and Mildred Mapes of Winterset.

Southtown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
