James Melville Torrence, 91, of 3948 Eighth St. died of cancer Sunday at Luther Park Cae Center, where he had resided since February. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Park Funeral Home, and burial of the cremains will be in St. Charles Cemetery.

Mr. Torrence was born in Amity and lived in Des Moines most of his life. He retired from C.E. Erickson Co. and was a member of St. Charles Parish Methodist Church.

Among survivors are a son, Jerry of New York City; and two sisters, Mildred Dowelling of Asheville, N.C., and Mabel Burdick of Midland, Texas.
