October 20, 1981 pg 5Howard R. Allgood, 92, of 4110 Second Ave., died of a heart ailment Monday at Fountain West Health Center, 1501 Office Park Road, West Des Moines.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Park Christian Church. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Cumming.
He was born in Mahaska County, but lived in Des Moines for 40 years. He also lived in Oskaloosa. A retired Polk County deputy sheriff, he was a member of Highland Park Christian Church, Highland Park American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Peace Officers Association, and Auburn Masonic Lodge. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was formerly a deputy sheriff in Mahaska County and a police chief for Oskaloosa.
Survivors include four daughters, Dorothea Gasperi of Mason City, Marilyn Boyle of Dexter, and Shirley Wingate and Gertrude Keck of Clarksdale, Miss.; a son, William C. Smith of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, Isabelle Wymore of Oskaloosa; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Highland Park Funeral Home.
