Mrs. Howard Allgood, 71, of 4110 Second St. died of a stroke Monday at Mercy Hospital. She had been ill four days.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mel’s Catholic Church, with burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery in the Old Irish Settlement in Madison County.

Mrs. Allgood, born in Seward, Neb., lived in Oskaloosa before moving to Des Moines 27 years ago. She was a member of the Catholic Woman’s League, Catholic Daughters of America, Polk County Democratic Women’s Club, and the All Saints Rosary Society.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Allgood is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dorothea Gasperi of Mason City and Mrs. Marilyn Boyle of Dexter; a son, William C. Smith of Milwaukee, Wis.; three sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Krapfl of Des Moines, Mrs. Frances DeHeck of San Jose, Calif., and Mrs. Helen Mount of Marshalltown; a brother, Herbert (Pat) Kelly of Lynwood, Calif., 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Caldwell-Brien-Robbins Funeral Home.
