Page 16Services for Mrs. Helen F. Bennett, 59, of 2220 Dean Ave., will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery, south of DeSoto.
Mrs. Bennett, mother of state Representative Vernon Bennett, died of complications following surgery Friday at Iowa Methodist Hospital. She had been ill six weeks.
She was born in Dallas County and lived in Des Moines 21 years. She previously had lived in Winterset.
Besides Representative Bennett, Mrs. Bennett is survived by her husband, Harry W.; two brothers, Floyd Kaufman and Nile Kaufman, both of Minneapolis; five daughters, Mrs. Joy Bricker of Earlham, Mrs. Connie Overholser of Ames, Mrs. Beverly Barry of Adel, Mrs. Leona Sonderleiter of Altoona and Mrs. Phyllis Carter of Des Moines; six other sons, George R. of LaVerne, Calif., Max of Des Moines, Richard of Winterset, Dale of Grimes, Raymond serving in the Army in Seattle, Wash., and Kenneth at home; her stepmother, Mrs. Leone Kaufman of Lineville; 36 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
