ORVILLE JACOBSMA, Winterset

Orville Jacobsma, 76, of Winterset, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at the Winterset Care Center North.

A funeral for Janess and Orville Jacobsma was held Monday, Sept. 3, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. A graveside service was held Tuesday, Sept. 4, in the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery, Ocheyedan. Memorials may be directed to the Grace Christian Academy in Winterset.

Orville was born July 2, 1936, in Clear Lake, South Dakota, the son of Horton and Arta (Franken) Jacobsma. Orville graduated from Hartley High School in 1955 and was later drafted into the United States Army serving in the Berlin Conflict. His marriage to Delores Granstra took place in June of 1960 and Delores died on Sept. 1, 1970. Orville then married Janess Wolcott Jessen on March 15, 1974, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Janess died on Aug. 29, 2012. During his working career, Orville drove truck and was a farmer. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouses; a step son-in-law, John Panther and four siblings, Irene DeYoung (John); Harvey Jacobsma; Marvin Jacobsma and Blanche Frick.

He is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Reusch of Williamsburg, Kan.; a son, Daniel Jacobsma of Pasadena, Calif.; four step-daughters, Julie Panther of Donnellson; Lori Martin of Silver Creek, Miss.; Celeste Jessen of Florence, Miss., and Angela Jessen of New London. He is also survived by two sisters, Ruby Brunk of Ocheyedan; Ruth Alsum of Randolph, Wisc.; a brother, Verlyn Jacobsma of Ocheyedan; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Beltman of Sheldon; Irma Jacobsma of Hartley; a brother-in-law, Vertus Frick of Ankeny; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
