Joyce Anne Holthaus Baiotto passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on Sept. 2, 2012.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, at the Valley Evangelical Free Church in West Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Earlham Community Center. A private family burial will be held following. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Joyce.
Joyce was the second daughter of Glenn and Fern (O’Neal) Holthaus, born in Colesburg, Iowa, on Sept. 4, 1932. She attended Colesburg School until her junior year when the family moved to Dawson, Iowa, where she graduated in 1950. Joyce attended her freshman year of college at John Fletcher College in University Park, Iowa transferring to William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa, where she graduated in 1954. While at William Penn she met her future husband, Ernest John Baiotto. They were married in June of 1954 and just celebrated 58 years together of serving the Lord. To this union was born two boys, Dani Linn and Ronald Lee.
Joyce’s great passion of teaching led her to a career of teaching third grade in the Earlham Community School for 32 years. Joyce was always an active partner in the various churches that Ernie served as pastor. In fact, she gave the children’s message in the Sunday morning service of Fairview Church south of Stuart, Iowa, the morning of her passing.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Fern (O’Neal) Holthaus and a grandson, Jason John Baiotto.
Surviving Joyce is her husband Ernie (Earlham), sons Dan (Kathy) of Collinsville, Ill., Ron (Clarice) of Van Meter; grandchildren Kristi (Dan) Luechtefeld of Des Peres, Mo., Joni (Steve) Horvath of St. Peters, Mo., P.J. (Carrie) Perucca of Fenton, Mo., Holly Baiotto of Van Meter; great-grandchildren Luke, Elle and Gavin Luechtefeld, Jason Horvath and Francesca Perucca; one sister Delpha Mae (Myron) Brockmeyer of Waterloo; as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of people who looked to Joyce as a teacher, grandma and friend.
