Lewis D. Means, 87, Rt. 2, Box 66, Lorimor, died Friday at the Madison County Hospital in Winterset.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Lorimor. The Rev. Merrill Siler will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Lorimor Cemetery. There is open visitation after 9 a.m. today with a family night from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Watts-Lindsay Golden Rule Funeral Home, Lorimor.
Mr. Means was born Aug. 28, 1903, near Lorimor in Union County to Ivan Marr and Idella Rebecca [Comer] Means. He married Mildred Iva Loy on Aug. 4, 1926, in Creston. He was a resident of the Lorimor area in Union County all his life except for 10 years from 1946 to 1956 when he resided in Jasper County. He was a farmer and self-employed carpenter until retiring in 1987. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lorimor.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Means of Lorimor, three sons, Richard D. [wife Bonnie] of Cofax, Mike L. [wife Donna] of Twin Lakes, Wis., and Robert E. [wife Jan] Means of Lorimor; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fern Burkheimer of Greenfield and Ada [husband Carroll] Denton of Winterset; and a brother, Andrew [wife Edna] Means of Lorimor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
