E. Davis Dies, Creston

Elenora Pearl Davis, 89, passed away at 8 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 1981 at the Crest Haven Care Center in Creston. She had been ill for the past seven years.

Mrs. Davis was born April 22, 1892, near Macksburg, the daughter of Ezra and Retta (Campbell) Gilbert. She was wed to Charles Davis on May 9, 1912 in Winterset. She was a longtime resident of Afton and moved to Creston in 1964.

Surviving are nine daughters, Mrs. Vera (Charles) Schneider, of Rapid City, S. D., Mrs. Wilma (Charles) Crow, of Omaha, Mrs. Velma (Dennis) Hook of Omaha, Mrs. Gladys (Russell) Johnson of Garretson, S. D., Mrs. Nora (Art) Horjes, of Omaha, Mrs. Shirley Frank of Macedonia, Mrs. Lela (Donald) Richards, of Belen, N.M., Mrs. Norma (James) Geary of Creston, Mrs. Irene (Glenn) Downey of Creston; one son, Charles of Newton. She is also survived by 32 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lorna Lauer of Creston, Mrs. Nellie Butts of Branson, Mo., Mrs. Laura Moore, Springdale, Mo.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Charles, on February 18, 1952, one son, three daughters, four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Coen - Beaty funeral home in Creston, with Rev. Ross O. Shinn officiating. Mrs. Dennis Kuyper organist played, 'The Old Rugged Cross,' and 'Going Down The Valley.'

Pallbearers were, Mark, Doug, and Bob Hook, Mark Davis, Rodney Curtis, and Jack Shannon.

Burial was in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton.
