Bertraund Lysle Wight

Bertraund Lysle Wight, 94 of Billings, passed away Wednesday evening, June 24, 1998, at Western Manor Health Care Center. He was born at Silesia on Sept. 6, 1903, the oldest of nine children born to Burt and Grace Robbins Wight.

In 1914, the family moved to a homestead on Tullock Creek, east of Hardin. Lysle attended schools in Silesia, Fromberg and Hardin. He worked on a number of ranches in the Hardin area and for many years was ranch foreman of the Grierson Ranch at Myers.

He married Ruth Alexander on June 4, 1955, in Winterset, Iowa. They are the parents of one daughter, Grace. They lived at Big Horn and Custer, before moving to Hardin in 1957, where Lysle worked as shop foreman at Miles & Ulmer. He retired in 1971 when Mrs. Wight was ordained a minister in the Yellowstone Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Ruth and Lysle served Montana churches at Carbon County Parish, Ashland, and Whitehall, and Wyoming churches at Ten Sleep and Hyattville. Mr. Wight was loved and appreciated in all the churches, as he was active in the communities and spent much time in repairing and maintaining both parsonages and churches. He enjoyed being a part of the conference Ministers' Mates organization, though he was often the only male member attending.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; his daughter and family, Grace, Dale and Rebecca Matthaes; his two brothers, Robbin of Radersburg and Dale of Townsend; his three sisters, Doris Taylor of Livingston, Marieanne Miller of Boise, and Maxine Watts of Woodburn, Ore.; and a large number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Joseph and Richard.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Grace United Methodist Church.

Private interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church, 1935 Ave. B., Billings, MT 59102, or the charity of one's choice.

Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Alderson Chapel has charge of arrangements.
