Page 1Sarah M. McClellan was born near Blairstown in Benton county, Iowa on July 25, 1859. She departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ethel Haselwood of near Topeka, Kansas, the morning of May 28, 1946 at the age of 86 years, ten months, and three days.
At the age of four years, she, with her parents, moved to Tama county, Iowa, later, at the age of twelve, the family moved to Madison county in the same state. It was from her father's Madison county home that she was united in marriage to Martin T. McClellan, of Winterset, Iowa on October 6, 1875.
To this union were born eleven children, six daughters and five sons. Two daughters and three sons remain to mourn her loss. The surviving daughters are: Mrs. Mattie Campbell of Cherokee, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Ethel Haselwood of Topeka, Kansas. The surviving sons are Walter M. of Minneapolis, Kansas; Elmer W. and Ed, both of Glasco, Kansas.
Besides her husband, who passed away on March 28, 1930, two infant sons, Samuel A. and Thomas M., four daughters: Mrs. Jennie I. Clark, Mrs. Eliza A. Suiter, Mrs. Alice O. Beck, and Mrs. Mabel E. Lindsay have preceded their mother to the Great Beyond. Of her descendants, she is survived by 35 grandchildren, 88 great grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren. Besides these she leaves two brothers, John A. Harper and William H. Harper, both of Glasco, Kansas, also a large number of nephews and nieces and grand nephews and grand nieces.
