Nyla Ruth Sturtz, age 88, of Winterset, Iowa, formerly of Boone and Truro, Iowa, entered into rest on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Winterset Care Center South.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the Van Meter United Methodist Church located at 100 Hazel Street in Van Meter, Iowa 50261. Rev. Linda Stueve will officiate.
Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 18, at the Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home located at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. with the family present at this time to greet friends. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at the Van Meter United Methodist Church with the family present to greet friends from 9:00 A.M. until the service time at 11:00 A.M.
Nyla was born on March 27, 1924 in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Iva (Dutton) Erickson.
Nyla graduated from Boone High School in 1942.
On February 21, 1947, Nyla married Norman DeWayne Sturtz in Boone.
While living in Boone, Nyla worked with the telephone company as a switch board telephone operator for over five years. In 1964 the couple moved to Truro and farmed there for over 15 years together, where Nyla worked as a homemaker and with Norman raised her boys. Nyla later moved to Booneville where she lived with her sister Norma. The two ladies later moved to Winterset together where they resided at Madison Square apartments. Norma passed away in October of 2011.
Nyla was a member of the Van Meter United Methodist Church in Van Meter, Iowa.
She enjoyed doing ceramics, reading bible stories, collecting hand bells, and especially spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nyla is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bud Anderson; her two sisters, Jo Fessler and Norma Jungman.
Nyla is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas DeWayne Sturtz (Delnita) of Urbandale, Iowa and Kevin Dewayne Sturtz (Barbara Hyde) of Osceola, Iowa; her six grandchildren, Martin Dewayne Sturtz of Marshalltown, Iowa; Traci Gardner (John) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Lane Sturtz (Emily) of Truro, Iowa; Justin Sturtz (Melinda) of Des Moines, Iowa; Jodi Sturtz (Levi Garner) of Truro, Iowa and Whitney Sturtz (Michelle) of DeSoto, Iowa; her five great grandchildren, Michael Sturtz of Marshalltown, Iowa; Cannon Garner of Truro, Iowa; Peyton Elaine Sturtz of DeSoto, Iowa; Remy Sturtz of Truro, Iowa and Jaxon James Sturtz of Des Moines, Iowa. Nyla is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In memory of Nyla, a memorial has been established for the Van Meter United Methodist Church.
Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home located at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone is handling the arrangements.
