Mrs. McDowell Gone - Death Takes This Pioneer

Passed away at the home of her daughter in Rippey last week

Rippey - June 4 - Grandma McDowell passed away last Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Smith. Her health has been in poor condition in the past few years.

Elizabeth Smith was born January 23, 1822 and died June 1, 1907, at the age of eighty-five years, five months and eight days. She was born in North Carolina and moved here and in her childhood days moved to Brown county, Indiana, and was there married to Otho Wolf in 1843. To this union many children were born, six of whom survive her. In 1853 they moved to Madison county, Iowa and in 1863 the home was saddened by the death of the husband and father.

In 1872 she was married to Macklroy McDowell and moved to Rippey in 1876, and was again left a widow in 1887.

She has been a member of the M. E. church since fourteen years of age, and was a faithful worker and the church until her declining years.

Five children were able to attend the funeral: Mrs. Asa Turpin, of Biglon, Mo., Mrs. Will Cummings of Winterset, Iowa, Mrs. George Wolf, of Rippey, Mr. Joe Wolf, of Panora, Mrs. Smith of Rippey. Another son in Arizona was unable to attend.

The funeral was held at the M. E. church. Interment was at the Rippey Cemetery.
