SARAH DRAKE WOOD

Sarah Emma Wood, daughter of Manning and Henrietta Drake, was born in Winterset, Ia., April 15, 1858. The early portion of her life was spent in the place of her birth and in the state of Nebraska. It was while living in McCook, Nebraska, that she definitely decided for Christ and united with the Methodist church and from that day she adorned her life with a consistent Christian faith.

On February 14, 1901, she was united in marriage at Winchester, Ill., to Otis A. Wood and gladly shared with him the joys and sorrows incident to wedded life. Shortly after her marriages she came with her husband to Pekin, where she continued to reside until her death. Her husband preceded her in death in the fall of 1923. Uncomplainingly with laudable devotion to the utmost of her strength she was thoughtful of his every need, thus helping him greatly over a very rough place on the road of life.

Under all the trials and burdens of life she manifested a fortitude of poise that was beautiful. Her strength to do and to bear was borne out of her conscious fellowship with Christ. Often times she would say to sympathizing friends. “Take the world but give me Jesus, all its joys are but a name,” Her prayer has been answered, all the world has been taken from her, save only place enough where her mortal remains may find a resting place, but Jesus remains with her all, Sunday morning, February 28, 1926, she quietly slipped away to her crowning.

She is survived by three brothers and two sisters, Frank H., Omaha; Julius M., Overton, Neb.; John D, Earlham, Ia.; Mrs. Ida Spittler, York, Neb.; and Mrs. T. J. Shipley of Pekin. May God bless the brothers and sisters, especially the absent ones at this hour and Mrs. Shipley who so kindly nursed her sister during the last week of her earthly pilgrimage.
