Death of Morley Whitworth

Morley Whitworth, another pioneer of Grand River township, passed away Sunday morning at ten-thirty o’clock at the home of his son, Lyle. The deceased was seventy-three years of age by his parents six years of age.

Mr. Whitworth was born in England on February 16, 1850 and was brought to the United States when he was three years of age by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Whitworth. He resided on his farm in Grand River township for many years.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 10th at two o’clock from the Methodist church at Macksburg.

MORLEY WHITWORTH

Morley Whitworth was born at Cambridgeshire, England, on Feb. 16, 1850, and died at his home near Macksburg, March 7, 1926 aged 76 years and 19 days. He and his twin sister were the youngest of eleven children of which only two are now living

At the age of two years he came with his parents to the United States and settled in Medina county, Ohio. Later moving by covered wagon to Bureau county, Illinois, and in 1871 to Madison county where he grew to manhood.

He was married to Phoebe E. Ballard on Sept. 12, 1878, and moved on the farm where he has resided for forty-seven years. To this union was born one son, Lyle M.

He was converted when a young man and became a member of the M. E. church of which he was an active member, keeping up the church work with Mrs. Whitworth and seldom missing any service. Because of failing health the past few years he has not been able to keep up his attendance.

He was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away on Sunday, June 20, 1915.

He was a most devoted husband and father, a kind friend, and neighbor who was always ready to help whenever needed.

He is survived by his son and wife, two grandsons, Milford and Arthur, his twin sister, Mrs. Rebecca Cook, of Sioux City, a brother, William, living near Fellowship church, a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.

His death occurred on Sunday morning at the Sunday School hour when he was called home to his reward.

The funeral services were held on Wednesday at the M. E. church at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. Athey. Burial was made at the Moon cemetery. The pall bearers were six of Mr. Whitworth's friends.
