Darrell A. Dunbar, De Soto

Darrell A. Dunbar, 80, passed away April 25, 2012. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel with burial at Oakland Cemetery in De Soto. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.

Darrell was born October 24, 1931 in De Soto to Bert and Phoebe Dunbar. He attended De Soto High School and met his loving wife, Joyce and were married October 21, 1951. He then served in the army, anti-aircraft unit, in Great Lakes, MI. They moved to rural De Soto in 1954 where they raised a family of five and lived for 51 years. He worked at the Dunbar Stockyards for 40 years and after retirement he became a bus driver for the Earlham Schools.

In October 1997 Darrell was seriously injured in a tractor roll over which left him disabled but was a strong man, and courageously battled his disabilities until his death.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce; five children, Nancy (Chris) Jensen, Mike (Margaret), Loren, Glenda (David) Heaberlin, and Susan (Tom) Jenkins; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; brother, Archie Dunbar; brothers in law, James Bratton and Roland Joiner; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Madelyn and Phyllis.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the De Soto United Methodist Church.
